French situation concerning the Mediterranean GIG / Round 2 Exercise Phytobenthos in Rivers
Situation Française concernant l'exercice du GIG Méditerranée / Round 2 Phytobenthos en cours d'eau

The present meeting, set up at the request of the coordinator of the 2nd "Phytobenthos Rivers " Iintercalibration Round of MED-GIG (S. Almeida, PT) has been organized by the CARMA Research Team of Cemagref de Bordeaux from 07 to 09-01 -2009. Being the 1st meeting organized within the framework of this new collective exercise, important points of the agenda were that each member country wishing to participate in the exercise : 1) made a summary presentation of its national evaluation system; 2) made the state of the national data available for the exercise ; and 3) if necessary, it addresses certain particularities or specificities encountered in its country, that may require a collective methodological discussion. In this context, Cemagref's presentation first touched on certain aspects of the construction of the French diatom evaluation system, in particular the biotypological approach which made it possible to identify the structuring of 5 natural communities of diatoms. This biotypological identification could then be delimited on the map and brought back into coherence with adequate groupings of HERs previously determined by another Cemagef team, on the basis of different categories of only abiotic descriptors. At this occasion, the ECOSTAT typology proposed for carrying out the intercalibration exercise, unsatisfactory in the French context, was also discussed. A quantitative point about the French data available by type of rivers during the 1st GIG exercise, then for the realization of this 2nd Round, was then presented, as well as the precise geographical location of the French sites participating to this 2nd exercise (all located in the south-eastern part of France. Finally, a last slide presented the methodology and principles followed by France for the construction of its regionalized EQRs.
Ce meeting mis en place à la demande de la coordinatrice du 2ème round d'intercalibration Phytobenthos Rivers du MED-GIG (S. Almeida, PT) a été organisé par l'Equipe de Recherche CARMA du Cemagref de Bordeaux du 07 au 09-01-2009. S'agissant du 1er meeting organisé dans le cadre de ce nouvel exercice collectif, les points importants de l'Ordre du Jour était que chaque pays-Membre souhaitant participer à l'exercice effectue une présentation résumée de son système national d'évaluation, fasse l'état des données nationales pouvant être mises à disposition de l'exercice et qu'éventuellement, il aborde certaines particularités ou spécificités rencontrées dans son pays et pouvant nécessiter une discussion collective d'ordre méthodologique. Dans ce cadre, l'exposé du Cemagref a tout d'abord abordé certains aspects de construction du système Français d'évaluation diatomique, et en particulier l'approche biotypologique ayant permis de repérer la structuration de 5 communautés naturelles de diatomées. Ce repérage biotypologique a ensuite pu être délimité sur le plan cartographique et remis en cohérence avec des regroupements adéquats d'HERs antérieurement déterminés par une autre équipe Cemagef ,sur la base de différentes catégories de descripteurs uniquement abiotiques. A cette occasion, la typologie ECOSTAT proposée pour la réalisation de l'exercice d'intercalibration, peu satisfaisante dans le contexte Français, a été discutée. Un point quantitatif sur les données Françaises disponibles par type de cours d'eau lors du 1er exercice GIG, puis pour la réalisation de ce 2ème Round, a ensuite été présenté, ainsi que la localisation géographique précise des sites entrant dans le cadre de cet exercice (tous localisés dans la partie Sud-Est de la France. Enfin, une dernière diapositive a présenté la méthodologie et les principes suivis par la France pour la construction de ses EQR régionalisés.
