Holm oak "symbolic mobility" in teh north-westhern mediterranean
In agreement with work of Bailly and Ferras (1997), the richness of the places appear fully while associating meant and its symbolic system; customs, habits, traditions and the popular beliefs which last through the ages direct the uses and the statute of wooded areas. Within the Mediterranean mosaic, the values and the representations specific to the holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) confer on this species an evolutionary statute in change since second half of the twentieth century. The trees symbols like the olive-tree, the holm oak, the fig tree or the Judas tree, reflect the history of the north-western rural Mediterranean and, henceforth, gain on new spaces. Into some area that it is, the holm oak is introduced in urban environment, supported by the bond symbolic system which it conveyed; that of a reinvented rurality which the cities wish to gain by modifying their range of plants.
